Right Time, Right Moment and That Song by Henry Lau

“Have you ever been bitten by the LSS bug?” thus asked by Spotify…

…and my answer is YES!

It’s been a while since I had a song I just heard hit me hard that I can’t get the tune and the lyrics off my head for weeks. The last song that hit me like this was “Terrified”. That was like “2009”! While I felt late to discover this tune, Henry Lau’s “It’s You” has become a favorite song which seems to be chanting in my head for weeks now. I can’t even get enough of his version with Lena Park on their Begin Again performance.

Why this song?

I came across this song on YouTube weeks ago while checking out Korean Drama OSTs which were sang on English. I have been checking out Cheese in the Trap OST’s and while I was trying to search for Go’s English version by SALTNPAPER, YouTube suggested this song by Henry Lau which was part of the While You Were Sleeping OST… after clicking on it, the melody, especially the lyrics, hits me. I tried to search for a female version of it and lo and behold I found his performance of this song with a fan and another version with Lena Park and immediately fell for it more…and after reading some comments on the song, I noticed one which absolutely explains what made people so hooked on this: the lyrics speaks precisely what many would want to one day say when they find the “one”.

I too found myself drawn to this music that for weeks I have it on repeat while studying. I even started following Henry and checked out more videos which made me reflect on how I have been using my own talents (which is another story to tell). Moving on, I have to admit, the comment I read on one of the Youtube videos of his song It’s You spoke the truth as I too realized it was exactly the perfect song I also want to dedicate to that special someone God has for me (if there is one).

It’s You perfectly shared with us the love story many would want to have. While there may be parts in the song that would speak of “falling so fast, deeply in love”, this is not about rushing in a relationship. Personally, I find the song to be more of a story about how one should appreciate the process before finally settling in a relationship. As a Christian, I find this also as a reminder that the journey is as much important as the fulfillment of God’s promise of marriage to one who was given a desire for it. So, what part of the lyrics gave me these impressions?

Before I proceed to sharing my thoughts, please take note I am not claiming this was what the composer had in mind. What I am to share are my own thoughts and reflections when I heard the song….

Moving forward…
In the song, while the lines “you’re the right time at the right moment” may have resonated more with many listeners, for me the two lines from the verses spoke stronger:

“...I wouldn’t change a thing ’cause finally it’s real
and … everything that you are is all I’m dreaming of

Often times, I find myself being reminded by many Christian couples of how waiting well on the Lord would get me to enjoy marriage with “pure joy”. Our naive and immature selves would always desire to rush in a relationship in their attempt to finally feel loved. However this always results in more painful experiences. On the other hand, despite “waiting” to be also a painful process, it is only on that period that we are shaped to be the person who can handle the relationship well. Failing to acknowledge our immaturity during the waiting season, especially not maximizing it, may lead us to either miss out on the blessing or misuse and mishandle it.

Waiting, pursued with faith and grace, opens us to God’s correction and discipline that shapes us eventually to handle the blessing well. Looking at this perspective, I honestly believe that if one day, God would present me to the man He prepared to be my mate, I would be grateful to all the heartaches and challenges — all the correction and disciple — that got me there… not wanting to change a thing.

It’s also good to note that the waiting season, and in pursuing it with an open and humbled heart, we get to discover more of ourselves and realize what type of helpmate we truly desire to have — details and all.

Singles are reminded to be prayerful about their future helpmate especially in determining what exactly we want to have for a partner. We are also reminded to tread it with patience and be more acknowledging of characteristics we admire from our own “crushes” or friends from the opposite sex. As we grow in maturity we also discover what we see as non negotiable traits we ought to pray for in a mate and what we need to develop to be the partner who can fit them — of course this is with another reminder that in the process we need to hold ourselves from desiring to be with anyone unless we are sure it is time. There is a difference between infatuation and love after all.

Anyway, going back to the song, the past few months, especially last Valentines, has been a breather for me when it comes to desiring a romantic relationship. First, the longing to have a mate has somewhat declined. Second, my gratitude for the waiting season has increased (I still have much to develop). Third, I somehow feel that God has placed me once again on a blank slate where I can just pray and rewrite the type of mate I should pray for now as I further develop my relationship Him in the process — a big RESTART.

Finding Henry Lau’s song on YouTube somehow became more of an affirmation than just the song I’d dedicate to God’s best man. It was very timely how I found it as it made me look forward to finally meeting someone who came at the right time and at the right moment — one who met all the things I’ve prayed for — when I will be more grateful and not regretful of every event that shaped me to becoming someone who can be a mate for that person.

I pray that if you are someone who also desires marriage, may you journey this waiting season well and discover more who you are in Christ — pursuing more of Him and desiring more of the desires He has for you. May you find joy in the process of becoming the mate God’s best person is praying for as well.
