Feeling CLOY

I am not so sure if everyone is aware but even before the community quarantine started, and as the world bear witness to the start of the viral Covid-19 spreading in Wuhan, China, there was another viral thing spreading like wildfire worldwide… don’t worry, it’s not deadly…but it sure does give me the butterflies ❤

If you’re a fan like me, then surely you know what I’m about to share here given the fact I used its abbreviation on this post title.

As people worldwide are forced to stay indoors, Crash Landing On You (yes, CLOY, that K-drama staring Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin) continues to conquer our hearts. In a time when Covid-19 grieves us, this K-Drama has somehow comforted us all and made us smile (BIG ONES!).

CLOY is available in Netflix, and to be honest I have re-watched it when quarantine started….and when it wasn’t enough, I found myself watching Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin’s interview and even started following their IG accounts and several fan accounts. It’s crazy I know — I don’t usually do this! In fact I once thought this practice to be silly but here I am fan-girling away! Why?

For those of you who are yet to watch this drama, CLOY is about a South Korean department store owner and chaebol (heiress), Yoon Se-ri (played by Son Ye Ji), who finds her self crash landed on North Korea after a paragliding accident. There she meets Capt. Ri Jeong Heuk (Hyun Bin) who hides her and helps her return to South Korea…eventually we all know where this led…

I have watched this drama (binged watched it) the moment its last episode aired. It actually made me more interested in Public International Law after realizing how complicated South and North Korean relations are… In this case it was neither their parents or their status or a love triangle (trust me it wasn’t) that made their love story conflicting. It was rather the division between North and South Korea…Good thing there’s Switzerland being involved in the story (but you better watch why because I am not spoiling it for you).

While the drama presents a rather far from real life events of how two star-cross lovers came to meet and fell in love, it showcased a heart warming approach to family, camaraderie, acceptance and unity….and while the actors’ chemistry (we call them the #binji couple) was sooooo amazing, the way their characters shared lessons, encouraged, and loved each other was something the world needed to see to remind us, no matter what, love always finds us.

Love

In this fear filled times because of Covid-19, we saw the world getting smaller thanks to the internet. We find ourselves appreciating and supporting the efforts of our front liners, we saw business owners who have turned their restaurants into temporary shelters for the homeless who needs protection from the virus, we find ourselves spending time more with family, and most of all we — more than every before — found ourselves praying to God and for others… wow!

Several times in the show, “reuninification” was mentioned… and at this moment, as we stay indoors, CLOY reminds us of several lessons including that of adapting, caring, and unity.

May love, given by the One who can find you wherever you are, infect you more than the fear the world has today….

…and as you stay indoors, and if you haven’t seen CLOY yet, enjoy ❤

As I end this blog, here’s a video by The Manila String Machine and their cover (while on quarantine) of “Song for my Brotherby Nam Hye Seung from the CLOY’S OST.
