In today’s age of Tiktok videos and vlogging, I guess I’m a bit left behind. I’m a content specialist yet it took me some time to talk in front of the camera and upload it.
I started last year with one random video with random thoughts. I posted it immediately on my Instagram and let it go. That was it. I tried uploading a follow-up, but it didn’t push through. I ended up eventually deleting all of them — until yesterday.
Yesterday morning, March 4, 2022, I had a speaking engagement with a school in the Bicol region. Despite the preparation and prayer for it to be perfect, the way I started was crazy. I woke up late, my Zoom had glitches, I started presenting without realizing my screen wasn’t shared, and I haven’t even applied makeup except for a lip tint (yes, looking good matters since I’m a woman and the speaker).
Despite the crazy start, I was amazed at how the morning went. God got me through it. I had a smooth discussion — with ideas running through my head one after another. I’d usually be at a loss, especially after how I started.
The event turned out well, and somehow, I got inspired to try uploading a video of myself.
Compared to the fears about “dying” and “pain” I felt the past months, I still need to surpass my shyness of facing the camera. I recorded a video that morning all right — but I ended up deleting it. That action bothered me. I recorded another that evening.
As I recorded my clip, I realize I can just cut some dead air and awkwardness and get it posted on IG Reels (many are doing it anyway). After preparing the clip, I went ahead and created an image — “Random Thoughts” — for me to show at the end of the video.
Uploading the video I made may have made me worried. However, it made me realize that sometimes, the biggest leap of faith happens when we take a step to conquer even a seemingly small fear.
We are in an era where videos are the most engaging content online. I honestly feel like a late bloomer (considering my occupation). Still, I am grateful for taking that leap of faith.
I hope that as we progress this year, may we continue to take leaps of faith to grow — even if it means taking one tiny step out of our comfort zone.
