Your Purpose in Every Season

To the soul reading this: Your life matters.

The speaking engagement last October 19, 2025 somewhat revived in me the needed push to write. For this blog, it’s that one question raised by students: “how do I know my purpose?”

Where Purpose Starts

Many believe (especially the younger generation today) that purpose equals calling. A purpose is never a title like a specific profession. A call is not even limited to one specific title a person needs to have. It’s also never about what you dream of becoming or an ambition you want to pursue.

If you go through the Bible, and also undergo mentorship, you will see purpose is more than just a job you are tasked to do to make a difference in the world.

Purpose starts with God.

Purpose is such a general thing I know it can be hard to understand for those who doesn’t journey it with the One who is the author of our purpose. At worst it even makes a lot of young people nowadays (with the pressures of the world) worried about their future — trying to figure out what their purpose is. But as you go back to Genesis and you will see why God made creation (not just man).

Purpose is the WHY …

It’s not a random reason why everything we see exist. It was given specifically by God.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

While purpose in the eyes of a person who doesn’t know God is confusing, in the eyes of a believer it was made simple in the life of Jesus Christ — TO GLORIFY GOD!

What’s the best way to glorify God?

By knowing Him, loving Him, and making Him known.

Jesus, at the height of his grief, knowing that he was to die still prayed “Let not my will but yours be done”. Imagine someone who has every bit of capacity and ability to run away from death yet chose to sacrifice himself as payment for the world’s sins. Jesus knew the will of the Father was to redeem the world from eternal death. He submitted to it… this is exactly what it takes to glorify God.

Our purpose goes beyond oneself.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

Romans 8:25 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” The fact that you exists (regardless of how people define your coming to existence) is because of God’s love for all. To exist is to have a purpose but it requires you to connect with the Author of your life (God) to live it fully.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

Living your purpose doesn’t require you to be this massive influencer or some rich guy. Your purpose to honor and glorify God starts even with small, somewhat mundane, things you do — and it goes back to knowing where you are right now.

A call is not a one time big thing you say yes to. A call happens in every season.

If you’re a student, you’re called to be study well, be a friend, add cheer to someone, assist a new classmate, and so on. You just have to live day by day knowing God has you and God planted you there for a purpose.

If you’re working, you’re called to work as if working for the Lord and not for human masters. You may need to mentor a new employee, motivate a tired colleague, or perhaps help improve the work system. Even if it means you’ll just be writing emails, encoding some data, and so on, doing it to glorify God makes all the difference.

We need to maximize (live well) each of the seasons we’re in by submitting to God. I suggest you try the following:

  • Pray to God to bless you with wisdom on how to go about your day.
  • Pray to God to lead you to someone who needs a prayer, an encouragement, or perhaps needs a listening ear.
  • Be mindful of your surrounding to see who may need a cheer or a small encouragement
  • Be mindful of your own thoughts, actions, and speech. Seek the right counsel if you need an accountability.

Obedience, summarizes all the actions that can glorify God in every season. A student asked me this during my talk: how do I know that what I’m doing is “right”? (according to what God says). In my head I wanted to ask her if she’s read the Bible but I held my tongue.

Seeking Guidance

Why are there many cases of depression these days?

In the age of social media–where we can compare ourselves to other people easily– we tend to want immediately what others have. In the end, even younger people worry about their future instead of living the now –at least that’s what I noticed.

We idolize other people’s lives and easily cancel someone we don’t agree with. We ask someone to change to fit our personalities not realizing that we are meant to be different. In the end we want to be what other people says about us (or programed to us through our screens) rather than acknowledging it’s okay to live as ourselves too — especially who we are now.

If we’re wondering if we are doing right to others and in every other activities life throws us at, have we stopped ourselves to asked are we doing right with ourselves?

Are you loving yourself?
Are you enjoying your own company?
Are you appreciating your own strengths?
Are you taking care of yourself?

How can you pursue your purpose, and live out what you’re called to do in the now if you don’t even know yourself? If you’ve allowed yourself to be distracted by the noise of the world? If you allowed yourself to be influenced by what society says is right instead of turning to the One who knows what’s true?

Serving your purpose requires you to fix your eyes on Jesus.

You were made in His image and likeness.
You are loved unconditionally
You are valuable in His eyes

No life is an accident nor a waste for Him. Unfortunately it’s either you allowed yourself to live unaware of this truth or you turned away.

Society’s “fact” is changing. Just look at social media…

God’s “fact” is unchanging. It stands whether you believe it or not.

So why let yourself be defined by the world if you have an identity that’s standing firmly on what God says? Unchanging whether people agree to it or not.

So yes, if you want to know if you’re doing right to yourself and to others…

  • Study the Bible
  • Pray always
  • Surrender yourself to God
  • Ask for a mentor (one who can guide you in God’s Word)
  • Seek counseling
  • Be part of an accountability group

There’s a light waiting to burst from you — to illuminate the path of those who are lost.

Your Life Matters

You matter whether you believe it or not.

I’m not here to convince you. The fact you exist means there’s a purpose God is waiting for your to discover and enjoy. The season you are in right now, despite all it’s challenges, has a blessing waiting for you to discover.

I pray that who ever reads this will be reminded comforted of the truth there’s a BIG GOD who loves you and has given Himself for you.
