Creating with AI: Will it Make Me Less of a Creative?

I recently asked AI this question: Why is revised content you provided much better than the one I asked to be revised despite it being generated by another Chat GPT account?

I have been using Chat GPT recently to help with creating SEO content. While I am against generating content using Chat GPT, I am not against using it as a tool to help with brainstorming and starting a draft. During this process I would often read, edit, and further debate with Chat GPT with phrasing, terms used, etc — Let’s admit that despite it generating content, it’s filled with fluffs and a errors that I end up rewriting the content myself. However, as I QA contents recently created by copywriters (copying and pasting the original and prompting Chat GPT to revise it according to what I want) I can’t help but ask the question why the results are so different.

Here’s what Chat GPT replied regarding my question:

The content differs because it was generated in a different ChatGPT account, which may be using a different model version or have a different conversation history and set of instructions. In this chat, I’ve had the benefit of seeing your ongoing feedback and revision preferences, so I naturally tailor the writing to be more reader-friendly, SEO-focused, and polished, with smoother transitions, stronger flow, and less repetition. Even when both accounts use ChatGPT, differences in the model being used and the context available to the assistant can result in noticeably different writing styles and overall quality.

Please note, I’m using a free version. The original one was generated by the copywriter using the company’s paid version. So with all it’s advanced features, this is one proof that it’s not actually what AI you’re using or whether it’s paid or not. What matters is the expertise driving the tool.

Chat GPT’s reply reminded me of a content shared by a friend: A marketing plan created by AI still needs a strategist.

The last months have been haunted with questions on whether it’s worth to replace manpower with AI. While it seems AI can be your overall assistant, eventually it also lacked the basic human touch it requires — experience.

Experience teaches us:

  • growth through challenges
  • empathy
  • passion and motivation
  • humanity

AI only:

  • gather’s data and creates from there

AI was studying my behavior, my preferences, which eventually led to providing a better output. These “debates” I had with AI or spending much time telling how I’m unsatisfied with the results and wanted something else with all the details used it to eventually provide the output I want. Of course I would still revise and edit it.

Where Identity Comes From

These past weeks as well I have seen how so many content creators share how they’ve become authors of ebooks and such just because they generated content from AI. Others have proudly flaunted even logo designs, arts, and music they’ve made from it too. While it may seem ideal especially for business owners — provided it was a means to NOT HIRE the right talent but depend on AI (it was a “saver” so they say) — this was not enough. Eventually people started speaking up.

While they say this is the death to many artist, it’s not. More than ever the desire for authentic creativity borne from years of practice and passion is becoming more in demand. People are starting to see the need for human connection rather than just the “perfect” outputs AI presents. After all, who can relate to a content generated by AI — contents generated from data gathered over the internet from other creatives. This goes to show how AI is just an impersonator of God’s creativity.

From Nothing to Something

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.…

Genesis 1:1-2

God’s creativity is the first thing highlighted in the Bible. Genesis showed how everything came from nothing to something. The earth was formless and void and there was only darkness… suddenly there was light, the heavens and earth came about, there was water and land, plants and every living thing …

…then there was man created in His image and likeness.

We are from a highly creative being who did all of this out of love. If we are created in His image and likeness, then we can also say we also have the ability to “create” something from nothing.

The words in this blog is one proof of that. There is no article like it. I am writing this without editing it and just typing away the words that pops in my head — my inner monologue — my thoughts. I’ve had this idea to write for a while now, realizing that the dependency on AI was an insult to God’s grace which He so freely gave (and I am not just talking about salvation). People need to realize that dependency on it has made us prisoners of “idleness” wrapped in a beautiful package called “productivity”. See the deceit there?

Start Thinking Again

We can be inspired by other people’s work. Every idea came from God and He is after all the origin of our creativity. In Austin Kleon’s book “Steal Like an Artist”, he shared how everything is inspired… This of course doesn’t mean we just copy someone’s work. No, his point means we learn from each other and improve ourselves and our work in the process. That is the beauty of learning…and that is how God intends it — for us to grow, enjoy community, let ideas flow. This is something we need to protect as creatives.

Letting AI generate things for us without even thinking and strategizing makes us prey to its so called “intellect”. It desensitizes us from the desire to explore and learn. We just let AI do the work making us lazy in the manner. I’ve seen first hand the effects of AI on one’s intellect. I admit I became prey to this. I remember in my previous work how I kept on saying “it’s the skillset that matters”. You can easily spot a a person that’s too dependent on AI. Left without it, they can’t even tell what the errors were and how to improve content. You can even feel the struggle they’re experiencing when coaching came.

I continue to see the problem AI is causing people as they continue to generate content. It’s not that creatives are becoming less employed but rather those who just depends on AI are becoming less capable of providing solutions. AI is a shortcut but not the absolute solution.

I am not against AI. To be honest I use it as a work tool. However I refuse to depend on it. I refuse to be a slave to it even if work demands me to use it. I don’t even trust people who use AI so easily in QAing content without questioning its reliability nor even having the expertise to do what they ask Chat GPT to do. Imagine the difference a content’s result is between a non copywriter QAing the content generated by AI vs one conducted by an actual copywriter also using AI. There’s a big difference still. The one lacks the experience while the other can incorporate it.

Be mindful. Be cautious. Learn to think again. Learn to create again. There is no limit to what God can do through you.
